As Christmas approaches rapidly, we focus on who and what we will soon be celebrating. Jesus is, as the Creed says, “God from God, Light from Light. This is the Babe of Bethlehem. Is our faith in Him authentic and whole? A question to ponder.

This Advent the beauty of poetry has helped us prepare for Christmas, focusing our thoughts. Another line from a poem this week guides us to reflect on the “birthday of the light,” and our need to reflect that light, who is the Lord, in our lives and our darkened world.

The mystery of our salvation in Christ is that it is freely offered: we have the divinely-given capacity to accept or reject. As we enter the Third Week of Advent, we ponder on that mystery, and what can move our stony hearts to accept His offer of love.
